This is a picture of Tom Nichols & Family.  The youngest Braden was just diagnosed with Type 1 insulin dependent diabetes.  Tom is the president of The Global Medical Research Fund.
I have been an insulin dependent diabetes for 30 years this coming March, and at the time of my diagnosis I was told that "There has been so much advancement in diabetes research that Diabetes will be cured within 5 years".  Needless to say that was 30 years ago, and there is still no cure!
Things have definitely changed since then, however we can still only treat the symptoms of the disease, and not the disease itself.
Well now my ten year old son has this terrible debilitating disease, and it is time to actually find a cure for diabetes and many other diseases.   This can only be done at the genetic level through stem cell research.

In 1999 when I first heard of Stem Cell Research, and it's potential to become ANY CELL OR TISSUE TYPE in the human body I was simply amazed by what I thought would soon be coming for the MILLIONS of American's that suffer from disease and disabilities.
Then the so-called controversy began, a very small group of people began disseminating false rumors of ridiculous things such as human-animal hybrids running loose on our streets, and reproductive cloning run amuck.  I personally felt that such things were rather far-fetched, and I didn't think the general public would fall for such blatant falsehoods.   However it didn't take long before some members of Congress were even believing this dribble.
Then in August 2001 George W Bush put a ban on the most promising stem cell research of all, this was the first time in American history that a President-- Let alone a majority of Congress passed up the opportunity to fund meaningful research in such a promising field of research.

My wife and I were simply flabbergasted, here was an opportunity to find real cures for real suffering and The United States of America just passed up this life-saving and life-altering opportunity to show extreme compassion to the MILLIONS of citizens that would benefit.

I actually thought that members of Congress would override the Presidents decision---I was terribly wrong the following year when it came to a vote!  My wife and I openly wept.
Then family tragedy happened, my mother was diagnosed with cervical cancer, in 2003 a small clump of stem cells were growing into a tumor, and surgery was her only option.
The surgery went well, but the surgeons were unable to remove all of the tumor, and these cells would soon spread throughout her body....Me and Theresa (my wife) along with others took care of my mother Betty until she died on October 18, 2005.   This experience nearly bankrupted us, and for the first time we realized that thousands of people must go through this each year in The U.S. alone.

In 2008 I began putting this organization together, our primary goal.  To support new and advanced medical research which can alleviate so much pain and suffering.
